Our new set lunch menu is inspired by the recipe collection of Martha Lloyd, a close personal friend of Jane Austen with whom she lived in Chawton from 1805 till 1828.

Like many ladies of her time she collected culinary and household recipes. Martha’s notebook reached 126 pages and contained 141 recipes and it is widely believed that Martha and Jane would have enjoyed many of the dishes described in their time living together. The original book can still be found in the Jane Austen house museum and although many of the pages are faded the recipes can still be made out.

There are many recipes that we still recognised today but we have tweaked them to be more palatable to today’s tastes (less suet and turnips). It is perfect for a light lunch but also has some heartier dishes for those who have a larger appetite.

The set lunch menu is available from Monday to Saturday from 12 till 3pm
